The Singing Sunday!

Just when I thought a Sunday is always about lazing, not taking a shower till late evening, watching reruns of reruns of F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ back to back episodes, or watching some already-seen crappy Bollywood movie yet again, the dear Life threw something, totally unexpected and full-on fun, at me, and guess what, I caught it !
It so happened that I woke up really ‘very late’ (also read as 12 00 hours) for a class at 9 00 hours on a Sunday morning at the Business School. Now you may want to ask the question, “Why could not you have slept on time (also read as 23 00 hours last night) instead of at 3 00 hours last night”. The answer to that shall be, “I was helping out a girl friend draft a 6 line email to a may-or-may-not-be-mother-in-law. This primarily took us 3 hours, since the 2 of us girls were working together on this one email. The more amount of time may be justified by the fact that we did not want the girl friend to seem too eager to her may-or-may-not-be-mother-in-law, and hence we had to be extra extra cautious of each sentence/phrase/word/letter that went into the email.”
Well, so I guess we have firmly established that I woke up late, the reasons for the same, and the fact that it was too late to go to school then. In a while, consumption of breakfast happened. Soon after, when I was contemplating whether I should read or laze or sleep some more or watch the good ol TV or do some FBing or blog, the door bell rang.

The Young Girl
As I continued to slouch on the couch, I saw the door being answered by her. 2 neighbourly kids were at the door, asking her to come and join them in the lobby to play some cute kiddy game. In the beginning, she politely begged to be excused. But kids being kids, never take no for an answer. And she was persuaded enough to go wear her sport shoes and be present in the lobby in a matter of 2 minutes.

Attain the Juggler Hands
4 small kids and one young girl (read as ‘old’ by some) decided they could try juggling tennis balls. They attempted one by one but no one was really able to juggle 2 tennis balls. So she suggested they all try slowly and first try to learn the technique. And after a while one boy got it right! And then he taught the girl, and then she taught the other kids. And then the lobby was a place of laugh riot, as the juggling made everyone yell and scream with joy and fun.

Spin-The-Top
They say while with kids be like the kids. They all got bored with so much juggling and decided they must now play another game. That is when they decided to play ‘spin the top’. All of them were amateurs at the game. They were trying hard to spin the top correctly, until when a neighbour uncle came along and taught them the real trick of the ‘spin the top’ trade! They practiced and in a matter of 10 minutes they were all were spinning the tops like professionals!

Lobby Cric-nnis (derived from Lawn Tennis and Cricket)
How would an evening full of Kids be over without inventing a new game? They did not have lawn tennis rackets and did not have a lawn. What they did have was a lobby and 2 cricket bats and tennis balls. Old style cricket is losing its charm with the kids these days, what with all the football fan following and tennis players gaining the media limelight. That is when they decided they will use the 2 cricket bats as substitutes for tennis rackets and play cric-nnis! The rules were same as those of Lawn Tennis. The pro that she is, the girl was winning. But the dear ‘Didi of the kids’ that she is she let one of the kids win. :).

Un‘adult’erated Fun
She came back home and was narrating the lovely anecdotes of the Un‘adult’erated Fun that she had had. That got me thinking that is it really that I have grown so old, that I suppress the young kid in me to just be a kid and enjoy life without the hassles that adults deal with all the time?
And that is when I decided that no longer will the little kid in me and me, live separately!
And then I sang happily !!

The Week That Was Not

Moody Monday
I am certain, its due to the Monday blues,
That I don’t seem to have any clues;

So lost I am,
Life seems such a scam;

I wish school were over soon,
Then I could even fly to the moon;

Instead I am stuck here,
Want to run and have no fear;

Tearsome Tuesday
Lost Phone
Lost money
Spent lot of money
Bad news about result unavailable(read as Fail) online

Winner Wednesday
Results out

Troublesome Thursday
Lost my dear old full of important data pendrive

Fearlsome Friday
Did not find the pendrive
Fear of losing important data on the pendrive(because I had no back up)

Sad Saturday
Attended econometrics class.
Did not understand a letter.
Depressing. Very
Then attended a talk on Human Rights. Thought provoking(will write on it in a day or two) and depressing too.

Things with me ?

And Things with me?
Things with me these days are such …

As she woke up this morning, and drew open the curtains, rather in the manner of some important functionary unveiling a statue, a golden glow filled the room.
As she lay there, watching the sunlight and thinking of this and that, it was not long before her thoughts began to drift in a conflicting direction. And then, that is when she had a feeling that she was trying to be heard in the drowsy stillness, the skies had turned from blue to grey, the horizon had become dark with unwholesome-looking clouds, and the wind was blowing with a gradually increasing force, the air cried a shrill melancholy wail…

She is certain, this semester is jinxed,
Her emotions to this are mixed;

She has taken everything so lightly,
Her behaviour seems so ghastly; !

It would all be pardoned only if she had a job that paid,
Or it would suffice, even if she were doing some trade; !

But alas! Such is not the case,
Things are still quite a haze;

She is sinking in the boat of recession,
The air seems so full of tension;

Has all the time in the world to pass,
'Coz she hardly goes to school or attends any class;

Soon, her breakfast, being had a few minutes later, brought about the restoration of her sense of well-being. So pronounced was the optimism engendered by the food, it seemed to her that she had been allowing the world’s menace to agitate her unnecessarily. She was having a sense of having passed through the valley of the shadow and somehow scrambled back safely to the other side.
She is not losing all her hope,
She would like to believe there is still some scope..!!

Haha..!!

TP at VT Captured Memories

I was telling Poppins that while I was attempting to write the previous post, I somehow found myself at a loss of words to describe the fun and the evening. Well his reponse was,

Well there weren’t many words to write about yesterday, where there?
It was (a hundred) pictures speaking a thousand words, all the way !

Well I couldn’t agree more..!! I am not going to be uploading all pics, but just about a few. Now mind you they are not high Mega Pixel pictures, but they are ‘good shots’ all the way :P

The sister of the first fish !!

The 'white light in the middle of the picture' is the 'Moon'!

An evening at VeeTee; With Poppins, Viks, and GeeTee !

The day at school was such a bore,
My poor heart was crying from the core;

I was wondering: why am I here again,
I could instead be playing a baddy game; !

Our subjects are anyways all crap,
The jargons, I am certain, are a part of a bigger corporate trap; !

By the end of the day, my eyes were almost closing,
I was almost dosing; !

After many days of doing nothing, we had a long day at school. 3 long lectures. Finally at about 19.30 hours we could smell the air of freedom…(meaning, our lectures got over and we were free to do what we wished…!) so we started our way out of the school and paid the customary visit to the Tapri. Then we decided we will go eat some yum food for dinner.
As we started walking towards Fort, it dawned on me (for the umpteenth) time, that how beautiful is our city. And there I went, click click with the camera. We entered the restaurant. Poppins and GT decided to have their favorite chicken dish; Viks was fasting so he called for no food..!; and I called for fish fry.
The evening was super fun as I behaved my crazy cute self ( :P ), and as three buffoons kept pulling my leg over topics after topics.
Now some funny stuff: I eat one fish, call for another – whist I am eating the second one, I solemnly declare: “I think this fish is the sister of the previous fish”. Lol
Then after a while Poppins wants to eat fish so he utters: “lets order one more and see if they were triplets!” lol
This evening was something! Super Fun ! Jokes seemed to be never ending. I had a blast. I am guessing everyone laughed a lot. Of course I laughed till my face became a cherry red...haha…
While on our walk back I shot so many photos*. All ..oh ok..Most of them have come out fabulous (according to me that is!). Poor Viks…after a while he was like…bus kar yaar…mera camera MERA camera hai…bus bhi kar…abhi toh camera bhi bechara pareshan ho gaya ho ga…
At this moment I had full mind to say, ‘how will the camera become ‘Pareshan’. I mean it after all is a ‘Nokia’ camera…! Lol.. But I just refrained from saying that!

Now…something that I wrote for my dear friends and also for one dear lady author ;) :) :

Hope your dinner was a lovely dish,
Now a good night to you is what I wish;

End of the day I wish you a sound-sleep treat,
Hope you have many a dreams sweet; !

In your dreams go fly to the moon,
Or even shoot or hit some goon; !

Now, now do go sleep,
In a calm slumber deep !

*Shall be uploading those to-be-award-winning-photos tomorrow! :P

Dev D - Thoughts after the movie/ Movie Review - Sunday, February 8, 2009

Dev D – Direction: Anurag Kashyap – Cast: Abhay Deol, Mahi Gill, Kalki Koechlin
Dev Doom
A rating of 4 stars by the so called movie critics in Bombay, for the movie Dev D, is beyond my comprehension. I agree, that the actors did a fantastic job, the movie was well directed, and cinematography was absolutely fantastic. The movie could be called as entertainment to a certain extent. But my problem with the movie deals with the entire concept/plot of the movie itself.
A rich kid (Abhay Deol) in love with a girl(Mahi Gill). Mistrusts the girl. Dumps her, insults her. Girl gets married to another guy. Rich kid realizes his mistake later. Regrets. Takes solace in alcohol, drugs. Enters another traumatized girl(Kalki Koechlin) who has become a CSW to support herself. Rich kid meets new girl. Falls in love. Mistrusts her. More alcohol, drugs. Drunken driven – kills people – has to go to jail. Somehow gets bail. Realizes his mistake. Goes back to the new girl. She takes him back. They decide to live simpler lives. They decide to go the police. And then live happily after.
I say, isn’t there enough misery, poverty, alcohol, killing, drugs already in real life that One goes and makes a movie so real? The movie is made for a commercial mass audience. An audience which is less educated, naïve, gullible, and easily influenced. Throughout the movie, one thing comes across very strongly – your life has problems? Do not worry because you can find momentary joy in alcohol and drugs. It is my guess that except some of the people who watch this movie, others have no idea what actual drugs like marijuana, weed, pot, LSDs are all about. This movie is taking these substances nearer to the common woman/man (in terms of the awareness). The movie does not even talk about rehabilitation. Rehabs can be as expensive as INR 6 lacs for 21 days. Let’s not forget that rehab will not necessarily cure any of the addictions. Not to digress further, what I am trying to say here is that the depiction is partial.
Now, people will want to point out that the Devdas directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali staring Shah Rukh Khan had too, the same story. But, I would like to point out here is that the movie belonged to a slightly older era and replication of the same by today’s youth/ generation is not so much as possible. But here, the contemporary Dev D can be epitomized by the youth today. I am not saying that Dev Ds do not already exist. There exist but only a few. I am not sure whether the movie has got a U (For Universal Audience rating) or an A (For Adults Only), but there sure was no checking of any sort of ‘above-18 years-of-age’. The audience in the multiplex where I saw the movie comprised of many a just-out-of-school youth. These are the people who tend to ‘take life lightly’/ have a ‘enjoy while it lasts attitude’. I even heard some people scoff loudly at scenes where nothing was even moderately funny. I am not being narrow minded here. But there has to a limit. And then we say that the country is witnessing more crime, more children leaving home, more homes breaking apart and so on…
I believe, everyone should have creative freedom to create what their mind wishes. But in a case like ‘commercial movie for a mass audience’ – please refrain from topics which are likely to make people go astray. I am fond of watching movies, and I watch many a foreign language movies which have portrayed deeper trauma and misery. But the audience that they cater to is much more evolved/ informed.
I would say this should be made into a documentary and less of a commercial film. And more than needed are some disclaimers and a kind of a write up before or after the movie for the people to read.
